Vegan Condensed Milk Recipe in an Instant Pot

    2 August, 2018 by Kip 2 Comments

While there are some commercial vegan condensed milk products available, like the Nature's Charm sweetened condensed coconut milk, it's very easy to make dairy-free condensed milk yourself. All you need is a slow cooker and a few simple ingredients.

Use this condensed milk with Thai iced tea and coffee, Vietnamese coffee, cakes, shave ice, and to eat by the spoonful because why not?

I made this vegan condensed milk in the Instant Pot, but you can use any slow cooker. This recipe should yield around 300-350 millilitres of condensed milk, so continue to cook until about that much remains. Note the milk may discolour slightly. Use a high fat soy milk for best results.

    Ingredients

    • 600 millilitres soy milk
    • 150 grams (⅔ cup) sugar
    • 2 teaspoons refined coconut oil (optional but it adds additional thickness when refrigerated)
    • ¾ teaspoon vanilla
    • Large pinch salt

    Directions/Method

    1. Add all of the ingredients to your instant pot or slow cooker and cook on low heat for 3-4 hours with the lid off, or until about a cup of syrupy liquid remains. Stir every hour, if you remember. Allow to cool and refrigerate.

A thoughtful read for long time vegans and nonvegans alike, this is one of the best styles of arguing for and discussing veganism I have yet to find. Highly recommended reading.
