While there are some commercial vegan condensed milk products available, like the Nature’s Charm sweetened condensed coconut milk, it’s very easy to make dairy-free condensed milk yourself. All you need is a slow cooker and a few simple ingredients.
Use this condensed milk with Thai iced tea and coffee, Vietnamese coffee, cakes, shave ice, and to eat by the spoonful because why not?
Instant Pot Vegan Condensed Milk
I made this vegan condensed milk in the Instant Pot, but you can use any slow cooker. This recipe should yield around 300-350 millilitres of condensed milk, so continue to cook until about that much remains. Note the milk may discolour slightly. Use a high fat soy milk for best results.
- 600 millilitres soy milk
- 150 grams (⅔ cup) sugar
- 2 teaspoons refined coconut oil (optional but it adds additional thickness when refrigerated)
- ¾ teaspoon vanilla
- Large pinch salt
- Add all of the ingredients to your instant pot or slow cooker and cook on low heat for 3-4 hours with the lid off, or until about a cup of syrupy liquid remains. Stir every hour, if you remember. Allow to cool and refrigerate.
