Messy Vegan Cook

Vegetart Park Güell Picnic FTW

One of Barcelona's nicest spots is Antoni Gaudí's Park Güell, an ornate city garden space that doubles as a Unesco World Heritage site. A large terrace overlooks the city and onward to the open sea, and there's ample space for sitting awkwardly with strangers on tile mosaic benches.

Park Güell, Barcelona

Vegetart Cuina Vegana, an inexpensive vegan Catalan takeaway joint in Gracia, isn't far from Park Güell and so we decided to buy all of the things and eat them in the park. On the day we visited, Vegetart had hummus, a couple of soups (including gazpacho), a pasta dish, quiche, veggie burgers, pizza, bean salad, cupcakes, and chocolate chip walnut cookies. Our favourites? The quiche, hands down. If you see it, buy an extra slice and eat it for me. Thanks.

The servings were generous and each cost €1.50 per portion. When they sell out, they sell out, and then they close shop to prepare for the evening rush. My point? Get there early to get the best selection.
