Koshari consists of a mound of a warming mix of lentils, rice, and macaroni pasta garnished with chickpeas and topped with spice infused tomato sauce. Crowned with a healthy scattering of fried onions, koshari is a dish to work its way into your repetoire of comfort foods. While you'll find koshari served on virtually every street corner in Egypt, it's a lesser known dish here in the UK. But anyone interested in devouring a bowl ought look no further than Koshari Street in Covent Garden, where Egypt's national dish is served in a friendly and 100% vegetarian restaurant. Almost everything is vegan, too, so no worries on that front. Alongside koshari you can purchase a variety of freshly made salads, desserts, and juices. The tomato sauce topping comes in three grades: mild, hot, and mad. I opted for the latter, while my dining companion enjoyed the least fiery variety. Both were outstanding.

You will enjoy Koshari Street if you're a lover of comfort food with an interest in new flavours and a desire for quick and healthy fast food in central London.
