Pineapple Americano

Pineapple americano, you say? Does pineapple and coffee even work? Yes, my friends, and it's piss easy (if you've got an espresso machine at home, anyway). With just three ingredients (pineapple juice, ice, and espresso), you'll have a refreshing summertime bevvie ready to glug.

I first came across this drink in Thailand, where young coffee creatives do all sorts of weird and wonderful things with various styles of brew (check out the drinks section on my vegan guide to Bangkok).

One popular formula is to blend either espresso or cold brew with juice. Some work better than others, but the pineapple americano is one of my favourites. The trick is to use a high quality 100% pineapple juice so the flavour shines through.

Pineapple Americano

This pineapple americano recipe was designed around using a glass with a volume of 47cl (16oz), so aim for a vessel with at least this capacity.
Servings 1 glass

Equipment

  • espresso machine

Ingredients

  • ice to fill glass
  • 180 millilitres pineapple juice
  • 60 millilitres espresso

Instructions

  • Fill a 47cl (16oz) glass with ice (all the way to the top). Add the pineapple juice.
  • Brew your espresso and pour it over top.
